CLM-0001 — يوم (day) occurs 365 times
COUNTING_RULE_DEPENDENT Audit report · deterministic reproduction
1 · Claim as commonly stated
The word يوم in the singular occurs exactly 365 times in the Qur'an, matching the days of a solar year.
Source note: Widely circulated in 20th-century numerical-miracle literature and popular media; the earliest precise source has not been verified by this project. Attribution intentionally left open rather than guessed.
2 · Reproduction method
Declared counting-rule matrix, executed against corpus quran:hafs-kufan:v1. Full rules, counts, and sample locations: EXP-0002.
3 · Result
Reproduced exactly under one declared rule: unsuffixed singular surface forms with clitic stripping (surface-clitic-stripped-singular) = 365, composed of يوم 217, ويوم 44, اليوم 41, واليوم 23, يوما 16, ليوم 8, فاليوم 8, بيوم 5, باليوم 2, وباليوم 1. Five other declared rules give 217, 274, 475, 475, and 451.
4 · Sensitivity to counting rules
COUNTING_RULE_DEPENDENT — the figure holds under exactly one of six declared rules. The popular claim never states its rule; this experiment supplies the most natural rule that reproduces it.
5 · Statistical context
STATISTICALLY_UNASSESSED — no preregistered null model exists for 'a natural counting rule lands on a meaningful number', and constructing one after seeing the result would be circular. No significance is claimed. Note on the project's surrogate machinery (MIZAN, EXP-0005/0006): surrogate corpora CANNOT test word-count equalities at all — every order-destroying surrogate preserves word frequencies by construction, so the count of يوم forms is identical in all of them. A meaningful null here would need a defensible model of rule-space and target-space, which does not currently exist anywhere in the literature this project has verified.
6 · Best argument in favor
A single, symmetric, linguistically standard segmentation rule (strip conjunction, preposition, article; require no suffix) reproduces the figure exactly, and the same rule simultaneously reproduces the companion claim for شهر = 12 (CLM-0002). This is the strongest machine-checkable formulation of the claim to date in this project.
7 · Strongest objection
Nearby natural rules give 217–475, and no principled reason privileges the one that hits 365 other than that it hits 365. Reproduction under a chosen rule is a fact about counting conventions, not evidence of design; the methodology (§13.3) forbids treating it otherwise.
8 · All recorded objections
- Rule-space freedom: six natural rules were declared; one hits the target. Without a null model, 'one of six' cannot be converted into surprise.
- The count requires excluding suffixed forms (يومئذ ×70, يومكم ×5, يومهم ×5), duals (يومين ×3), and plurals — defensible as 'singular, unsuffixed', but still a choice among several defensible choices.
- The lemma-based count (475) is inflated relative to upstream QAC 0.4 because the ingested fork splits يومئذ into يوم + ئذ (documented in the fork's changelog); dataset choice shifts counts.
- The clitic-stripping implementation does not resolve elided-alif forms (لليوم); this happens to be vacuous here because the form does not occur in the corpus, but it is a real limitation of the rule as stated.
9 · Final status
COUNTING_RULE_DEPENDENT
10 · Public summary
The famous 365 count is real under one natural, fully-declared counting rule (singular unsuffixed forms, clitics stripped) and false under five other natural rules (217–475). This registry records the exact rule that works, the exact forms it counts, and why no statistical or theological conclusion follows from a rule-dependent count.
